Over 400 small business owners, and local, state government, and economic development officials met at Utah State University in Logan May 30 and 31, 2007 for the Sixth Annual Rural Business Conference co-hosted by Senator Bob Bennett to learn how to gain a competitive edge in Utah’s smaller communities.
“Small business is at the heart of Utah’s growing economy. It’s always a pleasure for me to visit the rural parts of the state and learn how local companies use innovative ideas to expand into the global marketplace,” said Bennett, who joins with the Utah Rural Development Council each year for the conference. “Whether people have two or 200 employees, this year’s speakers and breakout sessions helped entrepreneurs learn to plan for the future, run competitive businesses, and connect to the resources available to them.” (more)

Bennett's Annual Conference Attracts Nearly 500 Utah
Small Business and Community Leaders
Senator Bob Bennett joined small business and community leaders in Vernal this week as the co-host of the annual Rural Business Conference, which provides practical tools and solutions to the unique challenges faced by rural entrepreneurs.
“As we celebrate Utah’s booming economy, we cannot dismiss the fact that some areas of rural Utah are growing faster than the rest of the state,” said Bennett, a former Inc. Magazine regional entrepreneur of the year. “In today’s Information Age, you can live and work in a remote geographic location and connect your business to the rest of the world. This conference provides rural entrepreneurs with the tools to do just that.” (more) |

Senator Bennett, eBay CEO Talk High-Tech for Rural Utah Business
You must always be looking to see what technology can do for your business, Senator Bob Bennett told 350 Utah business owners and leaders at the Rural Utah Business Technology Conference held on May 29 at Southern Utah University.
"We used to say that the economy runs on energy, and that is still true," Bennett said, "but increasingly the economy runs on information."
As the Utah senator asked attendees at the conference to ponder what technology could do for their businesses, he cautioned that they should also ask what functions technology should do for their businesses and said that those were decisions for business owners and chief executives, not the information technology staff.
